Common questions
Does it really catch everything?
Almost — about 98% of rallies in our 28-match test library, measured against hand-labeled ground truth. And nothing is thrown away: the “Between” view shows exactly what was removed, and one tap reclaims anything the detector missed.
Is the video quality reduced?
Essentially no. VBCut copies your footage rather than re-encoding it wherever it can, so the condensed match is your original recording, minus the waiting — if you filmed 4K HDR, the export is still 4K HDR. Cuts land on the nearest keyframe, so when you trim a rally to an exact point the app may re-encode a fraction of a second at that boundary; the rest is untouched. That’s a real difference from many automated venue-camera streams, which are compressed for broadcast and cropped from a wide-angle view of the gym.
Where does my video go?
Nowhere. VBCut runs entirely on your device — the video is never uploaded, we have no servers, and the app collects no data at all. Exports also strip GPS location from the file. See the privacy policy (it’s short, because there’s nothing to disclose).
What footage does it need?
A video filmed from a steady position behind the court — a tripod at the back corner works great (that’s where most tournament parents end up anyway). Whole court in frame, camera left alone during play. The two-minute filming guide covers it.
What devices does it run on?
iPhone (iOS 17 or later) and Mac (Apple Silicon). One match library workflow on both.
